2016 Game Changer Banquet Recap

We held our fifth annual West Kentucky FCA Game Changer Banquet on Saturday, November 12 at First Baptist Church Paducah. About 300 people attended to hear about and celebrate our 2016 ministry wins. Eric Grogan, West KY Area Director, discussed the growth that has taken place over the past few years, as the amount of huddles has doubled and the number of campers has tripled! Eric also shared about a new one day 7on7 Camp, Lineman and Kicking Challenge that we started this past summer at Murray State University in Murray, KY in which 14 teams participated in. However, perhaps the most moving and inspiring part of the evening were the video testimonies. One story was about a young lady named Lilly Holm who attended our Power Camp this summer. The other story was centered on how Reidland Elementary FCA raised $2,000 auctioning off a journaling Bible (please see both videos below!). Les Steckel, CEO of FCA and former NFL coach, was our guest speaker who closed out our evening. He challenged us as believers to take risks for God's glory. One powerful quote he left us with: 'If a terrorist can die for a lie than a Christian should live for the truth!' It was an uplifting and encouraging night of testimony of what God is doing through FCA here in West KY!

We are so grateful for Neil and the amazing food he provides from year to year! He is a true blessing to this ministry, in particular, our Game Changer Banquet!

2015 Game Changer Banquet Recap

Our fourth annual West KY Game Changer Gathering was held at Lone Oak First Baptist Church on Saturday, November 21, 2015.  We had over five hundred people in attendance to hear local athletes and coaches share about how God is using the West KY FCA ministry to move in the hearts of local athletes.  Attendees were treated to a fantastic meal by Neil's Catering.  Eric Grogan, the West Kentucky FCA Area Director, gave a recap of the progress made in 2015.  Some of those highlights included:

  • taking twenty students to FCA Leadership Camp this past summer
  • hosting our second annual West KY FCA Power Camp at McCracken County High School that tripled in size, with over 350 in attendance
  • 33 campers at West KY FCA Power Camp committed their lives to Christ!
  • 40 high school students volunteered and served as Huddle Leaders at our FCA Power Camp
  • 31 schools in the West KY area currently have an FCA presence either through a school FCA Huddle or one or more FCA Sports' Huddles.

We heard video testimonies from: 1.) local football players and their experience at FCA Leadership Camp 2.) Murray High School football players and the impact their coach has had on them this year.

Last, but definitely not least, we were blessed beyond measure to hear from Mike Matheny, St. Louis Cardinal's Manager, as he shared from his heart about his Christian faith.  He challenged us to 1.) Learn something new every day 2.) Choose to be disciplined 3.) Have a toughness and grit to stand up and fight for what is right 4.) Be a high energy, encouraging teammate--light up a room when you walk in, don't bring it down. 5.) Learn to selflessly serve others because it IS the single most differentiator. If you are a servant-leader, you WILL stand out.

All in all, it was a fantastic evening that inspired and challenged those who came to be a 'game changer', committing to make an eternal difference in the lives of others!

2014 Game Changer Banquet Recap

The West Kentucky FCA Banquet (Gamechanger Gathering) was held on October 27, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Paducah, Kentucky.  We had approximately 375 attendees.  It was a night full of athlete and coaches testimonies, including Paducah Tilghman track and cross country coach, Heather Hamilton.  Our featured speaker, Bobby Bowden (former Florida State head football coach), delivered a poignant message, keeping the audience in stitches with many stories from his past.  Not only was he a wonderful storyteller, but Mr. Bowden spoke strongly about the importance of reaching the younger generation for Christ.  He reminded us that our 'availability is far greater than our ability', challenging the audience to get involved with the West Kentucky FCA ministry. We are delighted to report that our ministry was just shy of raising the amount that we had budgeted for our banquet.  Following the banquet, we have received a great outpouring of encouraging feedback. We give God all the glory, 'being confident that He who began a good work will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus!' (Phil. 1:6)

2013 Game Changer Banquet Recap

We had a great night celebrating FCA in West KY. We enjoyed a great meal provided and donated by Neil's Catering.  Local student-athletes served, took care of our drink re-fills and did an outstanding job. Mitch Barnhart - UK's Athletic Director was our featured speaker....we also heard from local coaches and athletes via video.  Coach Kelly Glass and Jordan Troutman from McCracken County High School shared their testimonies as well.
